Extraordinarily few things anger me more than learning that “professionals” in the infertility industry have stole their clients blind. What makes these criminal acts so egregious is that as well as depriving their clients of their life savings, they are taking something even more valuable – their dreams and hopes.

However , they continue to operate today and tries to attract the eye of law enforcement has failed as most of their victims are foreign nationals. This leads me to the most recent fiasco to rock our industry.

Word has it the Michael Charles Group has shuttered their doorways and decamped with their clients’ trust funds with the FBI in hot pursuit.

For those ignorant, the Michael Charles Group was a well-liked escrow company for many surrogate and donor agencies. For those interested, you can still see the remainder of the Michael Charles Group web site by going thru the back door as they didn’t think to take off any other pages but the index page. Parenthetically, Michael Charles’ web site says that they’re a “bonded firm with all funds being held in federally insured accounts.” it’s going to be engaging to learn if they’d any sort of fidelity bond insurance or if they were being disingenuous and only referring to FDIC insurance. I might also like to discover if there actually is an individual by the name of Michael Charles or if it had been a fictitious cunning to loan credibility along the lines of a Charles Schwab or E.F.

Also, I have been hearing from couples that are using SurroGenesis USA, a surrogate and donor agency that is inexplicably intertwined with the Michael Charles Group. According to these couples, SurroGenesis was using Michael Charles and their funds are gone, leaving them with no capability to pay their surrogates, egg donors, insurance fees, and so on. I also took a peek at SurroGenesis’ internet site and discovered something that gave me pause. SurroGenesis makes a claim to have 60 locations around the world to service their couples. But then I noticed that they claim to only have 8 employees according to their internet site.

Even Dr Manhattan from the Guards could not possibly be in all those places at the same time. I have already learned of one case where health insurance was lost as the premiums weren’t paid. It is incumbent on our industry to do more to govern ourselves.

It is impossible to believe that enterprises, built on a place of cards, can be allowed to operate. Talk to your doctor about the options available to you. Print out copies of the agency’s web sites before it disappears or is modified. Luckily there are resources on the internet where you’ll be able to find the backed up pages, but it is still good practice to collect all the data you can now.

I mean, if a company is not even listing their physical address, you trust them to send money if a company claims to have eight employees in 60 locations, you think that’s a trustworthy company? Don’t you address that? So definitely listen to the advice that’s given and always research act on our agencies and clinics before you engage in any kind of contract with them.

These are disgusting business practices, and in my opinion people who cheat of the people should be thrown into jail, locked up and fined heavily.
